This book did take a while for me to be invested -- about a quarter of the way through, but once I did I was impressed by what a sympathetic character Ella was. A moving coming of age story that handles tough topics like racism, prejudice, color lines and sexual abuse. Amore

This book was a bit of a slow start and I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I thought I would. I did like hearing from a different perspective. It was hard to remember that this was a work of fiction so I was constantly wondering how much artistic license the author took.more
