The Paris Hours: A Novel
by Alex George
The Paris Hours (2/10/2020)
Immerse yourself in this remarkable book. You will become immersed in Paris after the first world war while you get to know and love the well-developed characters beforehand. Emotional involvement continues as we feel we are with them sharing their pain. A page turner you will not want to put down until the breathtaking, unexpected ending.
Mighty Justice: My Life in Civil Rights
by Dovey Johnson Roundtree , Katie McCabe
Mighty Justice (9/29/2019)
This book is a must read for anyone who thinks they know about Jim Crow. It is an eye-opener for those raised with the benefits of white privilege, She vividly gives a real sense of what life was like for an African American under segregation. Dovey Roundtree's life was shaped by many powerful women and men who inspired and encouraged her, in spite of her humble beginnings. Her perseverance in her life, against great odds led her strive for justice in the courts, and for women's rights and to be an early civil rights leader.
Women Rowing North: Navigating Life's Currents and Flourishing As We Age
by Mary Pipher
Women Rowing North (6/3/2019)
A very meaning full book with wisdom and depth. Inspires us to remember one's joys, foibles and stories, and feel self-forgiveness. Fondly, forgotten memories of the past became clear again. Following the experiences of the women in the book became difficult as they kept reappearing. Keeping notes would have helped! This book is a keeper, but perhaps not a great book club book.
