If Kasia were alive, do you think she would have accompanied Adam to the ghetto? Would they have been able to escape before the war?

If Kasia was still alive I don't believe she would have needed to make a decision about joining Adam in the ghetto because they would have left Warsaw before the ghetto was sealed off. Adam notes that if Kasia had lived, she would have moved both of them to England. He says she was more sophisticated than he and "could read the writing on the wall" and gotten them to London where they would have joined the Home Army and worked for Polish liberation on the side of the Allies. I believe the Polish people just kept thinking the bad times would not last. By the time the trains were taking Jews to gas chambers, it was too late for most of them to escape.

That is a tough question. Kasia liked nice things. While she loved Adam, she loved a blond blue-eyed man who did not look Jewish and who was not religious. Before meeting Adam, she had planned to go to London, but she stayed because he didn't want to leave. At the time she stayed, her rich father was still supporting them and there were no significant issues.
Of course, we want to believe she loved him enough to have gone to the ghetto with him, but we don't really know.

I think Kasia's father had a real hold on his daughter, and she liked the lifestyle his support could give them. If Adam did not leave in time, I think she might have persuaded her father to hide him, maybe in the father's house. Adam could have left when his mother and bother did. He did not. Why?? Was he sure he was going to be ok because he didn't look Jewish? Was it because he thought Kasia's father could protect them? Maybe Adam himself liked the support they were getting. A school teacher does not make much money. Could be many reasons.

That's a fascinating question, but I don't believe we know enough about Kasia to answer it definitively. She and Adam lived a comfortable life, and seemed to be in love, but she was not Jewish, was the daughter of a wealthy and powerful man, and it is hard to imagine her voluntarily going to live in the ghetto with Adam. I think it is more likely that they would have escaped, using her father's connections.

A tough question. I get the feeling that Kasia was the strong one in the marriage. She went against the wishes of all her family to marry this man she loved. Even knowing what it would do to her reputation. I think she could have easily convinced Adam to leave and go to England to begin their new life. But I also believe that if the Nazi movement had been quicker and they did not have time to plan their move, she would have gone to the ghetto with Adam, no matter what her father promised. I believed she truly loved Adam and would have stayed with him.

Her father would have made sure they went to England well before the Warsaw Ghetto was sealed off. Protection and adoration of his daughter was such a key component to his life. Even if they couldn't leave, I am confident that Adam would have been provided papers changing his identity to a Gentile. He could then have lived outside of Warsaw with Kasia.

I think Adam would have done everything possible to save her from the ghetto, including leaving Poland. Failing that, I believe she would have accompanied him, especially since they believed it was short term and had no idea how long and how bad the experience would be.
