Support

Deli provided Laura with support and acceptance while she worked her shifts in the nursery. Who else helped Laura on this journey?

Absolutely Deli. She gave Laura love and understanding even at the risk of losing her job. Lizzy, definitely even though her situation was different. The love from her cousin Mark was also very important.

In Laura's family, I think her grandmother and cousin Mark really cared about her. Her grandmother was a product of her times and believed the pregnancy needed to be kept secret, but I think she genuinely cared about Laura's welfare. Mark was a breath of fresh air - non-judgmental and supportive. The opposite of Clay. But I really liked Delli the most. She was practical and managed to see Laura's big heart right away. She accepted Laura and encouraged her to learn about the babies and how to care for them in the nursery. And she was generous in sharing her stories about her children with Laura. She was a kind, mature friend for Laura during her stay at the home.

I think her grandmother was a comfort to her but Delli stands out as well

Delli was the first person I thought about and agree with what's already been said. I also agree that Laura's grandmother was as supportive as she was able to be, as Ellen said, "a product of her times".

Delli was very supportive of Laura and did what she could to help Laura. Her cousin Mark was also supportive. Her other family members were all products of the times. Unfortunately not one of them was brave enough to go against the social conventions of the time.

Delli genuinely liked Laura and was receptive to her her feelings and emotions.

I think Delli. She really was a substitute mother figure for Laura. She also risked her employment by sneaking Laura into the nursery, so in addition to telling Laura stories so she knew what a family could be, Delli also expressed her support by her actions.

Delli was wonderful to Laura! Her grandmother did her best, but she was a reflection of the mindset in those days.
