Laura meets many unwed mothers like herself at the maternity home. Which of the girls' stories moved you the most? In what ways were their situations similar, and in which ways different?

RE: Which of the girls' stories ...

All of the girls' stories moved me. I admit I felt more empathy for the girl's sad about giving up their baby. The woman who was 28 seemed a bit "hard," but we don't know everything she'd faced in her life. It seemed most of the girls were being forced into the choice of adoption by family, or the fact that they had no way to care for the baby.

RE: Which of the girls' stories ...

Outside of Laura, Pepper's story moved me the most. She was a good student but her naivety and her need to fit in contributed to her situation. I felt sorry that she was raped. Laura and Pepper were similar in that they were both good students, had good hearts, were naive, and wanted to be "wanted". They both had mothers who didn't spend time with them in a loving and caring way nor give them the knowledge about life. During this time period talking about sex was taboo. I didn't get any info from my mother either (I am the same age as Laura). The big differences between Laura and Pepper was that Pepper seemed to be more realistic about her future and knowing that under the current circumstances it would be difficult to raise a baby. Also Pepper didn't know the father of her baby but Laura really liked Clay so she felt more emotionally connected to the baby.
