Jack Older wasn’t an Indian but was buried in an Indian grave

What do you think Jack Older’s afterlife will look like after he robs an Indian grave but in the end finds himself buried in one?

I loved Jack's ending. It was like divine justice - eaten by turtles and buried in an Indian burial ground. I could foresee in a sequel to this book that his bones are now relics and they are stolen. I don't think in his afterlife he's in any happy hunting ground.

Interesting that janines mentions a sequel: I thought the way the book ended was definitely set up for a continuation. I could even see this spawning a whole mystery series.

Poetic justice for Jack. Only a couple people will ever know what happened to him. Buried in a previously used Indian grave to be made to disappear slowly but surely by little turtles. No grave. No marker. Just what he deserved.

I also think there could be a sequel. I liked the book but some things were not fully explained. I am wondering if Crawford still has Jack’s satchel. If found with him will he be charged with killing the animals and questioned about Jack’s disappearance? Who is the newspaper man really? Is he interested in Two as a love interest or as a news breaking story. And what about the man who owns the land where Jack’s body was found, why was he even in the novel? He did see Crawford with the satchel.
As far as Jack’s end I agree with janines it was divine justice. I must say I never knew that turtles would eat dead humans!

Jack was pretty screwed up, he got what he deserved after killing some of the animals. To think about how he killed the animal friends of Two Feathers made me sick. Yes, I hope there will be a sequel so we know what happens to Two Feathers in her adult life.

He was a grave robber and robbed some of the graves on site. They needed to dispose of the body before it could produce an odor or be found by people or animals. Putting him in the coffin to have his bones picked clean was the perfect place to hide the body (skeleton) and no one would ever question it if they did find it since it would be thought to be 'just another Indian'.

Yes, poetic justice for Jack. And while I don't ordinarily condone covering up a murder, I think in this case it was the best thing to do. Certainly given the times Crawford or Two would have been prime suspects, and lynching sadly would not have been out of the question.

Jack got the ending he deserved. However, it bothers me that he was placed in Indian burial ground. This is sacred ground to the tribes and I had hoped they would have found a piece of land that held no spiritual meaning.

I would like to think this story does spawn a series!

I think the Native Americans were probably turning over in their graves having to share a grave with a snake of a white man.

I can understand BuffaloGirl's perspective, but I think they would've been accepting because having him buried in that way was protecting their kin: Two Feathers. I thought it was a clever way to dispose of the body.

Jack was a very sleazy guy. He was buried in an Indian grave only for convenience. He definitely got what he deserved!
