Cal tells Joe that "Dreams aren't just ideas… They're maps." What do you suppose he meant? Do you think that's true?

I think a dream can be a map, if you are serious about the dream and constantly think about it. The more you think about it, you are charting the map that will lead you to accomplishment.

A dream can become one's aspiration and an actual reality. One has to stay the course to reach a dream. Thus, achieving that dream is like following a map to where one wants to be in life.

I wrote that down after I read it. I agree that it is a plan of action showing the roads to follow.

I think that can definitely be true...if we are brave enough to follow our dreams, we just have to keep that as the end point of our map and see what path will take us there. Sometimes there are lots of side trips, but ultimately if you stay focused, you can reach the destination.

I think this means two somewhat different things. There are the dreams we have in our waking lives, which are perhaps more accurately called aspirations or hopes. These can definitely serve as a roadmap to the future, if we choose to act on them. Cal, for example, knew from an early age that he wanted to be a professional musician, and he followed that dream to his success.
The other type of dream is the one we have while asleep. For that one to be a map takes a lot of thinking about it after we have it, and some analysis and thought while awake to see if the dream fits into our life plan, or alters it, or has any effect at all on us.
