I have to agree with your sentiment, Deby. This isn't my typical reading material but I found that I really enjoyed it. It kept me quite involved.

I loved this book; the relationship between the three women, three generations of midwifes, is very interesting. Whereas Neva and Floss have a secret that in some respects is very similar, Grace is very disappointed that Neva’s baby won’t have a daddy growing up the same as she, which Grace missed very badly.

This was a nice book, but I thought it might have been a little too nice, not the way the world is.

Yes, it was. It's not the kind of book I usually read, but I enjoyed it and read it all in one day. I enjoyed learning a bit more about midwives (I have a friend who is a midwife, but she never talked much about her work). Even more, I enjoyed the exploration of mother-daughter relationships.
