Wood vs Stone?

Maybe just a spin on “old ways” vs “new ways” …
What are your thoughts about the “old” stave churches vs the “new” Gothic cathedrals?

RE: Wood vs Stone?

I have had the priviledge of seeing some stave churches as a replica is in the Black Hills of South Dakota and I visited another one in Slovakia. Obviously, wood is more vulnerable to fire than stone but it is also more intimate in its feel. The workmanship of both is very much dependent upon the craftsmanship available and Gothic cathedrals required the knowledge of building high arched ceilings that was acquired many centuries after stave churches were built.

RE: Wood vs Stone?

Both are achieved through master-craftsmanship, and visiting both types of churches can be produce an awestruck experience, but I'll dare to say that the wooden structures feel "warmer" and more inviting.
