We all remember high school. Were you ever made to feel like a freak? What did you do about it?

Minh tells Leon the story of how kids called her "stinky Minh" because of helping out at the dry cleaning business her parents ran. She was made to feel like the freak of the school and that made her feel like a monster. Were you ever made to feel that way? Has it ever happened after high school, or are we more "civilized" by then?

I wouldn't go so far as to say I was considered a freak but at my 45th class reunion I was told by a classmate that I was always talked about as being so smart. I chose to attend two schools everyday for the last two years of high school so I could get classes in science and math that were not available at my school. I had a career path in mind that this was to help me attain and it did. I really was not terribly interested in the cheerleader, prom queen thing but was friends with all of those girls. The guy who said this to me was also a good student and an athlete who ended up being a school principal for about twenty years so I was rather surprised by his statement.

I bet if you extended the time frame back farther than high school that almost everyone would have some time, albeit quite brief and temporary, where some comments were made. Kids can find something to make fun of about anything.
