At some point Pavla thinks to herself that "Love is filled with lies." Do you think this is true?

I don't necessarily agree with her as far as my life is concerned, but I think in her life it was true. No one seems to stand by or reach out to her. Her parents love her, but want to change her. Danilo isn't brave enough to declare his love, except to kill Klima to save her. Pavla is so isolated and alone. I can understand her statement that "love is filled with lies."

Yes. I think all the lies are really the same, one lie: that we love without the ego being involved. (Very common with parental love, and in romantic love.) A lot of what looks like purely unselfish love is not actually love but a discipline of benevolent action, a faithfulness to belief in what is the right way to treat others. Of course, Pavla doesn't say all love is filled with lies, and I'm not sure I would say that either -- something worth thinking a lot more about. But in the main, I think this is true, part of human nature. And not necessarily bad, unless the ego involved is divorced from reality and unwilling to be reflective and responsive to others (like a narcissist).

I'd like to think that love is not filled with lies but maybe little omissions. I think we omit a lot when we love someone so that we don't hurt them or because we don't want to admit things either to ourselves or to our loved ones. I'd like to think that the omissions in which we don't want to hurt them are part of love. We want to protect those we love so sometimes we omit information.
Everyone lies...but I don't think love is FILLED with lies. It would crumble if built on a foundation of lies.
