If you've read Call Me by Your Name, how do the two compare? Are there other similar books or authors you'd recommend?

Find Me is the sequel to Aciman's novel, Call Me by Your Name. If you've read the previous work, how do the two compare? Are there other similar books or authors you'd recommend?

The format is different, but the language is just as beautiful. I'd recommend Bel Canto by Ann Patchett (love overcoming age) and The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Call Me by Your Name absolutely wrecked me emotionally, and that's a good thing. I want literature (and art) to affect me. As a writer, you want to affect people. Aciman made me feel as if I were inside Elio's head, as if I were bound to the character emotionally.

I did not feel that as strongly in Find Me. Call Me By Your Name was too tough an act to follow. Elio and Oliver reunite in the final chapters of this book, which is essentially written in three parts: Samuel/Miranda, Elio/Michel, Elio/Oliver. I did not find the Samuel/Miranda relationship as compelling and it took the most real estate.

For similar books -- beautifully written with lgbtq character/s -- I would recommend:
Lie With Me by Philippe Besson
On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
The Archive of Alternate Endings by Lindsey Drager
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Less by Sean Andrew Greer

After reading Find Me, I felt compelled to read Call Me by Your Name. At first I was sorry that I had not read them in the order they were written; on reflection, however, I am glad that I had the experience of the sequel first. Find Me was emotionally intense with the chaotic drama of first love and youth, but the prospective on love and music that endure and the timelessness of both is presented beautifully in this four-part sequel.

Call Me By Your Name followed Elio's perspective of meeting and a summer with Oliver. Find Me is broken up into 3 different time periods, from the perspective of Samuel (Elio's Dad), Oliver and Elio. I like both formats, although Find Me left me wanting more on the stories from Samuel and Oliver's lives.

I have read both books. As I commented in another question I think the section of Elio and Oliver came far too late with far to little.
