Do you think it wasTJ's role to be so protective of Maddie? Do you think this helped or hindered their growth?

I understand why TJ would want to be protective of Maddie - their parents were gone (well, practically) and he saw himself as head of their family - but I think he was too heavy handed with it. She's old enough to make her own decisions; she doesn't need big brother influencing her.

I don't think he should have been so protective of Maddie because in a way he was smothering her and made her try even harder to break free. His overprotectiveness backfired. She was young and naive, yet she was old enough to make good decisions about her own life.

I think TJ took his role way too seriously. It's one thing to look out for a younger sister but he went way too far. Maddie proved over and over again that she was a strong person. While her brother was stuck in grief and denial, she went on with her life.
