What elements of this novel lend themselves to film adaptation?

What elements of this novel lend themselves to film adaptation? If elements of the novel needed to be deleted to write the screen play, what characters or plot points could be eliminated?

Always a fun topic to think about! For film: dark Scottish landscapes and panoramas of Paris. The emerging Eiffel Tower as portrayed on the inside cover of the book. The gorgeous clothes as described in the book. Cait- Cate Blanchett! - I am sure her Scottish accent will be very convincing. Emile - Christian Bale! I would love to hear him rock a French accent!

The prose and writing style of Beatrice Colin can easily be imaged on the silver screen. The scenery of Scotland and beautiful Paris would make for a gorgeous movie, plus the clothing and historical ambience of the late 1800s. Normally, I always think books are better than movies because one can paint a picture of the story in his/her own imagination, but this book may be an exception.

I think this novel would make a fascinating movie. The historical building of the Eiffel Tower, the powerful figures of the time (Eiffel, Seurat), the sweep of scenery from Scotland to both the high society and low life of Paris, and finally the contrast of South Africa all lend themselves to cinematography. Colin’s romantic but remarkably human/flawed characters could be brought to life by several skilled actors today.

I think the setting would be wonderful. And to see the contrast between Scotland and Paris would show how the Arrols would be out of their league arriving in Paris. How the characters respond and develop are greatly influenced by where they come from.

The engineering and building of the Eiffel Tower. I think many people would be interested in seeing that come to the screen and be delv d into. The story surrounding it would have to be tweaked to make it work on screen.
