Why do you think Young obeyed Pak's instructions, even though she thought they were wrong? What do you think caused her to rebel at the end of the book?

Her cultural upbringing contributed heavily to what she did and didn't do. At the end of the story, I was pleased to see she had learned to speak up and planned to do so moving forward

I am not sure why she obeyed Pak's instructions, unless she felt it was her duty as his wife. Her rebellion at the end of the book is something I would attribute to a betrayal of trust. I strongly believe that when you break a trust, and especially when that trust involves your child, that rebellion is a natural response. Break the trust, harm the relationship.
