What were thoughts about Claudette being able to stay a recluse from the pressures of the paparazzi? Is this something someone can do in this age?

For reasons that she determined, Claudette decided to move to a very remote location so as to be away from the public. She took extreme measures to try to achieve this, and for the most part, succeeded. However, in this day and age, it is unlikely to stay hidden.

Believable to me, even in the age of the internet, because some years ago, a MAJOR film star bought a second home in my neighborhood, which is rural, but nowhere near as remote as Claudette's home. Yes, the media knew he was in our part of the world, but they did not know exactly where, what road, what house -- and we locals would never tell them. There was a sense of circling the wagons to protect his privacy, as in my state there is a tradition of doing.
I noticed how when Daniel first "found" Claudette without even looking, and she sent a message with his package to him at his rooming house, the local woman who brought it to him would not name her, just in case she had the wrong guy, I thought -- being protective of Claudette's privacy.

I was also able to suspend belief for the book. I also think you could maybe do a better job of disappearing than we might think today. I think there are some rural areas where people really do not care. As long as you are a good neighbor (have good fences), they are fine to live and let live. If you are a farmer or a rancher or someone with an outdoor type lifestyle, it's unlikely that you are coming home and spending hours on the internet looking up the possible past history of the person that moved onto some remote property down the road.
I read something recently that suggested no one was from Montana, but the people that lived there were there because they were escaping somewhere else. The veracity of that may not be accurate, but to the extent it is, if many people in a community may have something to hide, they are probably not going to pry into the affairs of others.

In this day and age privacy is a luxury. Cell phones with very good cameras a nd video are common and widely used by everyone including children As many of the comments pointed out, good googling and photo skills would ensure that she was found. I think in today's world, she would have been found soon after she disappeared. here was too much money riding on her and the studio big shots would not want to loose money.

I agree with stabs that it is possible to stay hidden if you keep a low profile and rarely interact with people. Timou knew she would rebel if he found her and brought her back to the picture, so he crossed it off and went on to another picture. The press is always on to something else more exciting, so would drop the chase.
