I love Sally Sin. If Mitch Rapp had a younger sister it would be Sally Sin. Beth McMullen's "Original Sin" is a great story. I very much enjoyed McMullen's style of writing. Filling the reader in with flash backs keeps the story fast paced and crisp. Sally Sin is a great character. She is believable. Sally's dialogue and actions are well worked out and are quite believable. I loved her. She is smart, she has understated beauty, she is funny and a symbol of a new kind of wonderful motherhood. Simon is everything you would imagine as a "boss of spies." He has an appearance of coldness but you do sense that he does care for and about Sally. He is also believable and well drawn.
I can picture Ian Blackford in my mind. His character is so well thought out and developed. You can feel the tension through the story between Ian and Sally. The differences between Will and Ian are strong. You can see Sally wanting both men. The men, to me, represent the two different lives that Sally yearns for. It is very well done. You don't even have to think about what McMullen is trying to get across to the reader....her writing gives it to you in a highly enjoyable way.
I think that Beth McMullen has written a fantastic book. Great story supported by great,believable characters. My biggest hope is that "Original Sin" is the first in a series for Sally Sin, Ian Blackford, Simon Still, Pauline, Will and The Blind Monk.

Yes, I would recommend this book. I'm sending my copy to my sister. What was good: interesting plot, dialog, and characters. What needed more work: Sally's son was the only character that I could "picture" in my brain. For me, novels like this should be like watching an action flick, where you can "see" the characters. I wish there had been more description of the characters so that I could see them--in my imagination, they did not have clear faces and forms--they were slightly out of focus.

The promising premise just didn't deliver. "Original Sin" (same title as a P. D. James mystery) was a bit witty, but mostly it was tedious. The perils recounted in hindsight by the main character were repetitive and didn't lead me anywhere. I was hoping for a more strongly portrayed connection between Mother/ex-spy and toddler, who seemed kind of annoying and one-dimensional.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, despite not all of it being "believable". I had a hard time deciding how to rate the book: I wanted to give it a 5 for sheer fun and reading pleasure, but it simply doesn't have the quality of a 5-star b00k. That being said, I am totally looking forward to the next book in the series, and hope that the author will be able to add character depth without sacrificing the easy flow of the writing. I predict that this series will be wildly successful!

Can a spy ever really retire? Sally Sin gives up the spies life for marriage and a family. However, her husband and friends suspect that she's more than just a housewife, and her past comes back to haunt her. This is a very fun book that doesn't require a lot of thought, you just have to suspend your disbelief enough to accept the premise. It has plenty of action and enough mysteries to leave one looking forward to future books.

Although I found the premise for the story to be absurd that did not affect my enjoyment of the book. Sally/Lucy's adventures are over the top and are pure fun to read. I look forward to more adventures and more character development. This book is a perfect beach or plane read.
