original Sin
This is a fast-paced spy novel. The one thing I did not like about it was the constant change of times and locations. Just when I became comfortable in one spot, the location and time period would change to another one, so I was unable to get into the play by play action the way I'd like to. The main character of the book, Sally Sin or Lucy Hamilton, was a spy in a earlier life. However now she is married and a mother, too. But her spy master keeps trying to involve her in the old game. Her husband comes from a wealthy family while Sally has no family to speak of. They were killed when she was a little girl, although Sally suspects Simon her spy master knows more than he's telling her. He keeps trying to involve her back into the old spy game but she wants no part of it. Sally doesn't know why he wants to bring her back because she is not very good at spying; her only real asset is her language skill with all kinds of foreign dialects. That and she seems to be close to Ian Blackford who always knows where she is and does not try to kill her. Simon wants Sally to bring him in because he's become a rogue spy and is working with other bad guys. I would have liked to stay longer at some of the action scenes. Sally would very much like to know about her earlier years. Ian seams to know her earlier history. The bad characters do not seem to stand out much. The only ones who feel real would be Theo - Sally's baby--a spoiled brat because she doesn't know how to handle him, and the Nanny who feels more real life-like as an adjunct character than the primary ones. The Nanny has positive vibes for Ian because of his looks and Sally's ambivalent feelings towards him. I feel he is not the really bad guy in the story, not like the Blind Monk and the spy master, Simon.
I give the novel a 5 for action, a 4 for story development and a 3 for character development.

Please let it be the ONLY sin ...
This wasn't even all that exciting a "suspense" novel: I felt as though I knew what was coming every time I turned the page. The character of "Sally Sin," aka Lucy Hamilton, is fairly well-drawn, but I just couldn't really make myself care what happened to her by the end of the book.

Excelllent
This was an awesome read!! Could not put it down. It's the story of an ex-spy turned housewife and mother who gets called back into duty without letting her family know of her past life. It was a great story from the first page. I can only hope that Ms. McMullen plans on keeping this story going. I see many, many stories starring Sally Sin. Don't let this book pass you by!!

Original Sin
I loved this book! Such a great combination of mystery/thriller/chicklit.....and I enjoy all three of these genres so what a treat to have all 3 in one book! I read this book over a weekend..not because it is a short easy read but because I couldn't put it down! I look forward to reading more from Beth McMullen!

Spying in Suburbia
I loved this book and I don't even have kids. I think most young mothers would love this book as well but any female reader will like it. It is the perfect summer read. I found it the perfect mix of suburban life and having a job spying for the country. Made me wonder if our female spies do marry and have kids while still trying to do the job. There are serious parts but overall there is a lot of humor here and you will find yourself laughing out loud at Lucy and with Lucy. I thought she was a wonderful character.
By the time I had finished the first chapter I was saying to myself there has to be another book coming. Lucy is just too enjoyable to be in only one book. In some ways it reminded me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum and we all know how successful that series has been.
It might seem strange for a book like this to be discussed in a book club but I think there are aspects here that one could talk about. Most women do work and raise kids at the same time these days but how about those working in jobs that are quite dangerous. Overall though I think it is simply fun to read and fantasize about being a female James Bond.
If you take one book on vacation this summer, take Original Sin. You won't regret it.

I loved it!
Original Sin, by Beth McMulllen is a fast paced page turner with a plucky heroine (Sally Sin) who “has a license to kill and carpool”! The plot is
full of twists, lots of laughs and the characters are complex, well developed, and interestingly real. I couldn’t put it down! And I didn’t see the end coming! I loved it! I can’t wait for Sally’s next adventure. Keep them coming Ms McMullen and congratulations on a great first book!

A Female James Bond Returns
This is a book for the inner Wonder Woman in all of us. A fun read that takes us on a roller coaster ride to the heights of adventure between bouts of domesticity. Sally aka Lucy manages juggling her two identities with finesse and aplomb and we can only look forward to more books in this new series

okay debut, needs more oomph
Finally finished the book. It started out with a lot of promise, but somewhere near the middle, the book was trying to figure out what genre it fell under. At times, it felt like a really good chick lit, and other times, it felt like a tepid book about something else. I was drawn to the character of a stay-at-home-mom ex-spy, but the story was flimsy at best. It didn't hold my interest long and I'm a fan of adventure spy stories and chick lit, alas, the book wasn't able to blend the two well.
