This book is heartwrenching. Its almost like you're there with Chris McCandless during his journey, and I love how Krakauer used other people similar to Chris including himself to get a better understanding of the character. I also liked how Krakauer didn't really criticize Chris McCandless, but let everyone's opinion come in mind. I am reading Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air now and I think he is an amazing author, definitely one of my favorites. I hope he will write another book soon

by yOGa_pAMuNgkaz_suPeRcLaRk it's a great novel
This book is great. After watching some information on the Oprah Winfrey on my TV, I decided to study this novel and analyzed characteristics of Chris and why he decides to leave his parents to live off the land in Alaska. Chris has to satisfy his needs of safety and security needs, love and belongingness needs, self-esteem needs, and the last one is the self-actualization needs. He is able to fulfill those all his needs which are emerge caused by lack off love from his parents since his parents are so busy with their jobs. I recommend this book. By reading this novel, you will get better understanding why Chris is so motivated to reach Alaska and living off the country there though he finds a lot of troubles.

by RB Well written....
The author does a good job of piecing together the travels of the main character, but I could definitely tell the author was much enamored of this "child". For that is exactly what he was.... a spoiled rich child. I felt no sorrow or sympathy for his outcome.

by mikey Chris is a hero
Chris Mccandless may be selfish to the feelings of his family, but he is a pioneer and inspiration to those of us looking to strip ourselves from society. Those of us striving for a simple life, a life containing not much more than solitude and daily struggle for existence. A life free of anyone looking over the shoulder. A life of complete freedom from restriction and rule. One can imagine how difficult it is to live alone, totally dependent of oneself, and in complete acceptance of ones responsibilities for survival. Now I see this 'expedition' as a temporary endeavor- 'to go searching' is a term we use. but this endeavor for Chris was much more personal. This realization was meant to cleanse him from all his childhood discomforts and mistreatments. Therefore, I want to congratulate Chris for making this leap of humanly faith and reaching out to grab that feeling we all desire. That feeling that helps us explain our existence and justify our means. Whatever motivation may drive us to take the leap.
A bold, mesmerizing novel about the woman known as "Typhoid Mary," the first known healthy carrier of typhoid fever in the burgeoning metropolis of early twentieth century New York.
