outside wonderland
Outside Wonderland is a most interesting book. Its point of view is unique, drawing on our natural curiosity: What happens to us after death? To our loved ones after we’re gone? Will we ever see those already gone before us? Will we see those we leave behind?

The characters were easy to relate to and follow along with during their adventures and misadventures. I wish there was more time spent with the parents and their point of view as well as their reactions to their new surroundings.

Although not for the younger set, young adults on up should have an enjoyable relaxing read.

Family from the here and hereafter
Parents viewing adult children "here" from "there".
A quick read, the author is able to write about behaviors and feelings of adult siblings acting on their emotions who don't seem to believe in deferred gratification or doing the next right thing. It is not a book I'd recommend to a friend but would leave on public transportation for the next rider.

I REALLY Did Try!!
I really did try to like this book about 3 adult siblings, who were orphaned when they were young. The parents looking down upon them from Heaven just did not connect to the story line for me. it took me a few chapters to remember who James was.
The siblings made so many bad choices & never seemed to be happy with what they had. I tried to find a connection to their experiencing death at young ages, but I really came up short.
Perhaps, this book will be a good beach read.

Entertaining Beach read
I really liked the premise of this book but it just didn't develop as I had hoped. It is wonderful to think that our loved ones are watching us from above but the premise just fell short. It was an easy read- perhaps too easy. The characters were fairly interesting but the book lacked depth.

I wanted to care more about these people
Out of Wonderland is a book I kept wanting to like. As I read it I wanted to care about the three children: Alice, Dinah and Grif, but I didn't. I didn't like them, though I did want to know what happened to them in the end, I wasn't really invested in their fates.

I was intrigued with the premise of three orphaned children and their parents following their lives from heaven. But, their Greek Chorus parents were not involved in any meaningful way in their lives. They did not really know their children or care. None of us seemed to care about anyone or anything. When I finished the book I felt sorry for us all and the waste of time we had all exerted in this enterprise.

Outside Wonderland
This book caught my eye as I thought that the plot point of parents having passed and watching their children as they grow was an interesting one. However, although the book and the stories of the children kept me reading to find out more, I found the switch to the view of the parents to be distracting and not a very interesting contribution to the story. Having said this, I did enjoy this book and it kept me interested, but the one thing that drew me to it the most was the only thing that I really did not care for.

Outside Wonderland
I loved this book! Lorna Jane Cook writes about our earthly tragedies from an eternal perspective in a poignant yet matter-of-fact way. The settings provide interesting back ground and the characters realistically tug at your heartstrings. The author's descriptions draw in the reader such as when her character, Alice, becomes enchanted with the child, Adam, and says "she felt herself slipping into the skin of the three-year-old". The story is well-written, fun, and easy to read and you will be sad for it to end.

Interesting Read
It took me some time to get in the flow of the book. I got through the opening chapters where both parents have died and the 3 children are left alone. Each of the children has a story to tell and does it in their own style. Initially, I found it distracting to have the parents in the afterlife discussing the lives and mistakes of their children. I feel that it would be a good book for a book club or discussion group to read. Interesting discussions would center around this book.
