Why do you suppose William Henry Teale feels the house is his locus amoenus, an idyllic location. What is your locus amoenus?

William Henry Teale writes that the yellow house is his locus amoenus – an idyllic location. Why do you suppose he felt this way? Does it seem ideal to you? What type of place would you consider your locus amoenus?

I feel like WHT was, by nature, an introspective loner, and as such it was an ideal place to him because he could be himself and live his life as he chose, more or less. Plus it was beautiful!

I'm not sure I believe in an ideal place, since anywhere one goes there are challenges. Being a bit of a loner myself, though, I think I'd be happiest either in a location similar to the yellow house - far away from people and in the midst of nature - or living in an apartment or condo in a large city, where amenities are handy but one can still be pretty much anonymous.

I think WHT felt put-upon by requests from others for paintings that he did not want to paint. At the yellow house and its surrounding fields and forests he was alive to the natural world around him and was able to paint what he saw and loved rather than those things that others required of him.
As for me, a location is ideal if I cannot hear my neighbors yelling or playing their music too loud and my dwelling contains my books and my fabric and sewing machine and at least one dog and a couple of cats.

I think he appreciated the property’s remoteness but knew that he would lose his privacy and peace when his family arrived. Then he treasured his liaisons with his friend there and those seemed to be his happiest.

I think WHT felt that the house was his idyllic location because it was the only place that he could really be himself and not hide who he really was. My idyllic place is also my home, because it is the only place I can just relax and be left alone!

It was the enhancement of the yellow house in combination with the surrounding nature that caused
William to find his home & heart entwined. My idyllic location is a library. This has been true for me since I was a little child. The library was a magical place of inspiration and peacefulness.

My ideal location would be a small house on my grandsons acreage - close to family, but a home of my own.
