Anastasia tells her client, Mr. Farnsworth that "One believes the world is enchanted or one does not – it is no use trying to convince another person otherwise." Do you agree with the sentiment? What's your opinion – is the world enchanted? Why do you feel this way?

RE: Do you agree that "One believes...

What we believe is a product of what we see, read, hear, and experience. One may start out with set ideas, then something happens with or to them, and the idea shifts. I believe that those who are open to shifting will have many opportunities to experience, discover, and discern new concepts. It is like people who each day identify gratitude, they become open to seeing, receiving, giving more good. I like the opportunities presented by enchantment, so yes, there are many things we cannot see, but can sense, so there is likely a good deal of enchantment going on around and about us. Do I have a need to convince anyone of that? Not necessarily, but I'd gladly share an opinion.

I personally believe that to be true, but I think that many would feel the other way. It's like the glass half empty or the glass half full. For the most part in my life, I've been an optimist. I have tried to convince some members of my immediate family to look more to the bright side of life. Has not worked much.

Yes, I do believe that people believe or do not. I don’t think trying to convince people is particularly effective and I think even if confronted by a ghost or some type of spiritual apparition a true non believer will most likely find a way to rationalize the behavior rather than accept it was some type of supernatural being. I do believe the world is enchanted. I agree with lorrained, she says it very well. There are so many things that we cannot see but we can feel and sense. Why deny this other part of our experience? Why not open ourselves to the possibilities and experience what we can, and enjoy life to the fullest.

I think there are few things that one can convince another of. In order to change your opinion, there has be something striking that occurs that flips a switch or turns your viewpoint, and you can suddenly see something you never before noticed.

I do believe that there is enchantment in the world, that it lives within each of us and that the ability to experience it depends upon our circumstances. The writers above my message have expressed this very well.

I don’t think you can convince most adults of anything if they won’t open their minds and hearts to it. Witness the division in our country.
I wish more people can embrace enchantment …like gratitude as Lorraine previously described.
You can step away from pointless “noise” and appreciate the miracle that is the natural world. The gift of the natural world enhances our humanity, stories of those who lived before emphasize struggles and foibles are timeless.
There is so much we can’t explain and that is ok.

Enchantment, like mystery, surrounds us, but with the tempo of our days, is easily ignored. Rather like the differences between the examined and unexamined life, recognizing the enchantment takes effort.

I'm not sure I really believe in ghosts, fairies, and other supernatural occurrences, (including the twin sisters thinking and acting from their grave), but I do believe there is a lot we don't know about the natural world. I'm reading a recently published non-fiction book called "An Immense World, " by Ed Yong, and he describes the amazing powers many animals have that we can not experience through our human senses. If that is the case with animals, there are probably many other truths about our planet and the universe that we have yet to discover.

Our beliefs can be transient depending on our individual experiences at any given moment. We can, for example, not believe that the world is enchanting until an experience occurs which affects us in a deeply spiritual way. I agree that sometimes recognizing the enchantment around us takes effort, as do all spiritual journeys.

I do believe there is magic and enchantment in this world. I think that people can change what they believe-especially if they are willing to be open to it. I am a mother of five and a teacher and I always see the possibilities instead of the idea that we are continually rooted in one belief. I think that hope is what makes me see the endless chances for connections to others and the natural world.

It is so hard to get another person to change their mind - I guess I’m thinking politically, but probably true in other scenarios, too. And a lot of times people are either negative or positive; they see things in a positive or negative light, and that is a character trait that seems inbred.

Yes, as do many writing above, believe the world is enchanted and spiritual and magical. However I also believe that most people need to be taught “how” to see and experience these qualities in our world. People who read all their lives are far more likely to be open enough to experience the enchantment in our world.

I agree. I think that most avid readers are aware that the power of reading enhances compassion, empathy, tolerance.
Most readers are of the mindset to slow down, reflect and be open minded. These actions allow us to “ see” beyond the daily grind.

It makes no difference what the topic is - people have an opinion. Seldom can you change a person's mind. You might be able to add to it or subtract some point, but to change a persons mind - not likely.
