Poor Tybalt's pride and wish to defend the honor of both Rosaline and Juliet is truly his downfall. He got into scrapes with the Montagues several times in the book as he would not be branded a coward. Ultimately, it was his undoing.

I absolutely agree. Tybalt let Romeo goad him into a senseless fight by punching all his “macho” buttons. Tybalt had been reared on hatred for the Montagues and was something of a blustering blowhard when he was with “the boys.” After all, he was only 15.

Pride is definitely used to show the pitfalls in Tybalt’s personality as it leads to the loss of the one thing he wanted most…. To be with Rosaline!
