The culture portrayed in the book is rife with injustices. What injustices do you see in your own culture? How does one level the playing field? In your opinion, is there an effective way pursue justice for all in your own society?

For some reason, men managed to get the upper hand in all societies. They will occasionally throw a compliment to keep morale going. All cultures want to place men above women when they should be equal. And then they create a bible to support their misogyny...nice!!

"Might makes right" is pretty much how man and the rest of the animal kingdom has developed. How else could it be for survival? As a species we have developed past survival mode. Come on, yes, we have. There is more justice, more recognition of injustices. There will never be a level playing field. There will never be a perfect system until there are perfect human beings - perfectly identical human beings. How awful would that be? Instead of equality perhaps uniqueness is what we should strive for. Learning about other cultures can go a long way in analyzing and appreciating or holding up a mirror to our own.

Until women rule the world, there will never be a level playing field. Men will do whatever is necessary to keep the upper hand in society. Women have come so far, and yet, still we suffer the indignities of men in so many ways.

Im laughing with PKH as I felt the same! …..and yet some small doubt makes me think wouldn’t woman having sole control also scum to the ever so dangerous instrument of Power???? I guess in that regards in some ways I agree with crk! Maybe dual rule is the way to go.

I think the best way to pursue justice is never giving up. I get very discouraged sometimes with all the injustice I see just in our country, let alone the world, but then I remember how far at least some countries have advanced throughout history. I am very concerned that the USA is on the knife's edge of going forward in justice for all and democracy or backward into elitism for a few and authoritarianism.

I think that equality equates to a more fair and equal justice. You have heard that there has to be poor people for the rich to survive - I think it is the same way with justice. There has to be the downtrodden for the elite to survive. Until we change laws and really work towards defining and honing in on justice there will never be true justice. For instance - a convicted person can not get a DNA test done because of a time limit - not the diminished factor of the sample, but it being outside some man made amount of days to produce the results!!! Ludicrous! And there are many examples of this - so justice?? We only pretend that there is true justice.
