Rosa Parks....quiet with a strong point of view; a woman who made a difference for future generations.

Absolutely Rosa Parks. She accomplished with one quiet word what many others had been shouting for. She didn't want the spotlight, she just wanted to be treated equally.

I think Barack Obama is fairly introverted. He is charismatic but I think his natural temperament prefers a quiet night at home to a wild(?) Washington D. C. party. He has been criticized for not socializing with members of Congress. Maybe that just isn't his style, although more dinners out with Republicans might be helpful. He remains calm, reasonable and focused while others are yelling and screaming. I think that type of quiet dignity is very powerful and productive.

I agree that Barack Obama is probably an introvert. An introverted President is a hero in my book. I think shirleyl is right, that be gets criticized for not socializing with Congress, but that's not his style. He also takes a lot of flak for using a teleprompter for his speeches, but I think most of us introverts would do exactly the same. The accomplishment for us isn't memorizing the speech, it's getting our ideas and plans across to the audience.

It's difficult for me to understand in what ways Obama's introverted. I'll admit the teleprompter makes sense for an introvert but, in other ways, I always assume politicians must be extroverts, as part of their jobs. All that working with people, making public speeches, etc... I could never do that. Then again, I'm way, WAY high on the introvert scale.

I do agree, a lot of introvert personality traits are desirable in a president. I'm just befuddled!

Re: Obama and introversion: As stated in the book, someone who is an introvert can learn to become more extroverted. If it accomplishes positive changes to our country (in terms of socializing more with Congress, Republicans, etc.), I think he can and should overcome being an introvert (that is, if he is one...)

I agree with Rosa Parks and Obama. Also, I admire Lincoln, Einstein and many of our great scientists and engineers.

While "role model" is too strong a description, I just saw Jack Dorsey, creator of Twitter, in a segment of 60 minutes. He is working on a new company that could change the way we pay for our purchases. He aspires to be the mayor of New York City. During the segment, he gives beautiful descriptions of how he prefers to work and interact with others. He doesn't use the word "introvert", but there is no doubt. He is the Wall Street Journal's Innovator of the Year for 2012 and an introvert who is changing our world. If you liked Quiet, check out the 60 minutes segment. It will likely leave you smiling.

Sir Isaac Newton was severely introverted, to the extent he reportedly ran to hide in closets when women entered his home. Yet, look at all he accomplished! I believe he's the most introverted scientist I've heard of to date.

I am withyou lisag on the question of Obama being introverted. He seems to be socially engaged all of his waking hours which is something I could never do. As far as role models I think some of the authors I read are introverts which I think is a good thing for an author. Herman Wouk, Margaret Atwood, and Joyce Carol Oates all come to mind.
