Time Travel for Beginners
by Jaclyn Moriarty
Time Travel with a twist (6/7/2026)
I loved this novel! A bit of time travel, a bit of family drama, a bit of romance. All these components were done well and mixed together seamlessly. I especially was drawn to Anna, the lead character. I am significantly older than Anna yet I related to her immediately. I loved how the concept of time travel was incorporated into the story in a unique and believable way. I have enjoyed other explorations of time travel (The Midnight Library, Life After Life), but this book was completely different and presented yet another way that time travel works. The ending was a big and unexpected twist, which was great fun!
The Pie & Mash Detective Agency
by J.D. Brinkworth
A Fun British Cozy Mystery (12/24/2025)
Wanna-be sleuths, Pie and Mash, are also a cute couple who are not fully in love with their respective careers. When they decide to take a course on becoming detectives, the fun ensues. The book started slow and it took a bit for this reader to become engaged with the quirky characters and the , at first, complicated plot. However, soon the plot began to come together and the characters became more developed and interesting. The plot was unique, with a dual time-line for added interest. I did not figure out this who-dun-it until the final reveal. This was a fun book for cozy mystery fans.
The Vanishing Place
by Zoë Rankin
A thriller in the bush of New Zealand (5/26/2025)
I loved the writing style of this novel, with it's short chapters and multiple timelines. The book starts with a situation that introduces us to Effie and also lets the reader know that there will be surprises and scares! As we delve into Effie's life, a child appears, in apparent distress. The book then continues to solve the mystery around this child. There are several plot twists that were completely a surprise to me. There were a couple that I started to figure out, but was never fully correct. There was one character that puzzled me throughout...what was her real role in the mystery? However, the author finally answered that question at the conclusion when this thrilling, scary and violent story came to an end. This was an enjoyable page turner!
