A pleasant surprise
THE GOOD SISTER was a pleasant surprise and my first Sally Hepworth novel, the reason for my surprise. The book met my number-one requirement of a good book: it must be one I don't want to put down, even to eat or sleep.
Rose and Fern are twin sisters. Fern has issues with sensory perception. She also takes everything said to her literally. Perhaps she has a high-functioning form of autism, although the book never says so. But, apparently, Rose has always taken it upon herself, even when they were children, to watch out for and protect Fern. We know this from a journal Rose is keeping now that they are adults.
In alternating chapters we see Fern's and Rose's lives from Fern's perspective. She feels indebted to Rose. So, because Rose wants a baby but can't have one, Fern decides to have one for her. Once she gets pregnant, though, we learn more and more about Fern's and Rose's lives, and it becomes more and more difficult to determine who is the good sister.
I've heard THE GOOD SISTER called "women's fiction." That term is such a turnoff for me! Please don't call it that. I just call it a really good book. And now I get to read Hepworth's backlist.

Did not think it would end the way it does.
I was hooked the minute I started reading the book.
At first I liked Rose, what a caring sister. Then as I got to know Fern, she grew on me. Ferns honesty was refreshing, no hidden agendas. The story twisted slowly and before you realize it, the truth's unfolded.
I have used it in two of my book clubs. I tell everyone who likes to read that they must read it and we can talk about it afterwards. Thank You Sally Hepworth.

Deceptive
A story that revolves around two twin sisters with very different personalities. The reader gets both sisters's views of their childhood and their current lives. There's something going on here but you just can't quite put your finger on it so you just have to keep reading until the end!

Elizabeth@Silver'sReviews - Keeps You Guessing
Which sister is the good sister?
You will ask yourself this question as you read.
They both seem to be good and good for each other especially after surviving their horrible childhood with a sociopath for a mother.
But is one better than the other? Is one actually more conniving than the other? You will find out.
We follow Rose and Fern's life and see that Rose protects Fern at all costs and that Fern listens to everything Rose tells her to do.
The alternating chapters of each sister's life as adults was described in detail and gave us insight into how they really lived and the secrets they kept from each other and one they kept for years.
This book was more character driven than plot driven for me, but that is great because the characters are likable.
You will like both Rose and Fern and especially Wally. Wally is a man Fern met when he came to the library. They have much in common and are a good pair and good for each other.
There is something happening in both stories, but something you can’t pin down or can't figure out.
The beginning has you wondering where it is going, but…oh does it get better and better.
Sister and family drama can be good or bad.
THE GOOD SISTER will let you know which way it goes for Rose and Fern. 4/5
This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
