Hello

A hundred years ago Lusitania, the world's largest passenger ship set sail from New York. Entering British waters it was hit by a torpedo. 1,200 passengers and crew died, providing a catalyst for the USA to join WWI. The story of Lusitania is one of three books reviewed by our members this week. The others are The Life I Left Behind by Colette McBeth and Irritable Hearts: A PTSD Love Story by Mac McClelland.

These are just three of the books to explore in this week's packed issue. Thanks for reading!

"If this is a sample of what is in store for readers, I can't wait for more books by Colette McBeth. I was engaged from the first page and as the suspense and drama continued to build. The atmosphere and characterizations in this novel are outstanding. Mystery/thriller lovers, do yourself a favor and purchase this as soon as it is released." - Sue P. (Richardson, TX)

"The Life I Left Behind has just about everything on my 'Get it!' book checklist. Its setting is my travel destination of choice (anywhere in England), it has multiple narrators (Eve, Melody and DI Rutter) and the story line ping pongs effectively in time (between past and present). McBeth has now been placed on my 'read this author for sure' list." - Kathleen W. (New Brighton, MN)

"The difficulty of living with PTSD and the difficulty of living with someone dealing with PTSD are highlighted in this well written book. As the mother of one with PTSD, I saw what research had told me. It was difficult to read but I can be a better mother and friend now." - Gigi K. (Lufkin, TX)

"This is a well-written, stunning book that altered what I believed about PTSD. A very honest and courageous book that will challenge beliefs." - Paula Jacunski

"This is a powerful book, not for the squeamish. I think it would foster some good book club discussion." - Carolyn L. (Summerville, SC)

"A lot has been written about the Titanic, but little about the luxury liner torpedoed as WWI was building up. Vividly written with beautiful descriptions of the opulence of the age, I enjoyed every page." - Marjorie H. (Woodstock, GA)

"This book is amazing. I knew just a little about the sinking of the Lusitania and after reading this book I feel as if I were there on the ship. The rich details and tremendous research make for great reading. I have never read a book before where I felt that it was happening to me. This book really is remarkable." - Anita S. (Boynton Beach, FL)

"I don't read much non-fiction. I love getting lost in a 'story'. Fortunately for me (and for any other readers) Lusitania tells a story, a riveting, transfixing story." - Judy K. (Conroe, TX)

H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald

Hardcover (March 01, 2015), 288 pages.
Publisher: Grove Press.
BookBrowse Rating: 5/5, Critics' Consensus:  4.7/5
Buy at Amazon |  B&N |  Indie

It is difficult to categorize Helen Macdonald's debut, H Is for Hawk; it is simultaneously a natural history, a literary biography, a memoir, and a chronicle of bereavement. It's also a thoughtful inquiry into the (often imagined or imaginary) relationship between people and wild animals and an intriguing glimpse into a world many of us probably didn't even know existed.
