The demise of regional newspaper book review sections

Mar 06 2007

Triggered by the rumor that the Los Angeles Times will soon fold its review section into its regular newspaper, The Wall Street Journal reports on the demise of the stand-alone newspaper book review section in USA regional newspapers - currently 6 regional newspapers still have book review sections compared with about 10 to 12 a decade ago. The reason generally cited is lack of publisher support in the form of advertising, as publishers prefer to pay to stack mounds of books in the front of chain bookstores, which can cost $1 a copy.
