At last night’s reception for the 2006 Los Angeles Times Book Awards, the newspaper's editor and book editor both downplayed reports that the paper is planning to scale back its book coverage. Editor James O'Shea hinted that, despite the suggestion from his predecessor to kill the Sunday book review, it would remain. However, it may not remain as a stand-alone section and might be incorporated into the Saturday paper. The reason cited by the LA Times, and other regional newspapers, who are cutting their book review coverage is lack of advertising support from publishers.
