The Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded including a first win for online news network, The Huffington Post.
Other winners include:
Nonfiction: Stephen Greenblatt, The Swerve: How The World Became Modern (Norton)
History: Manning Marable, Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention (Viking)
Biography: John Lewis Gaddis, George F. Kennan: An American Life (The Penguin Press)
Poetry: Tracy Smith, Life On Mars (Graywolf Press)
Drama: Quiara Alegría Hudes, Water by the Spoonful
No doubt much to the frustration of the writers of the three shortlisted novels, the 20-person board failed to reach a majority regarding the winner of the best fiction award, so no award was given. Apparently this is the tenth time such a thing has happened since the prizes began in 1918. The novelists in contention were David Foster Wallace for The Pale King, Karen Russell for Swamplandia!, and Denis Johnson for Train Dreams.
