Bob Dylan wins Nobel Prize for Literature

Oct 13 2016

The 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to singer-songwriter Bob Dylan "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition."

Five days after the award was announced, Dylan still has not commented publicly, or responded to the Academy.

"We have stopped trying [to contact Dylan] - we said everything we needed to his manager and friend, he knows about us being eager having confirmation from him, but we haven't heard anything back," Odd Zschiedrich, the administrative director of the Swedish Academy, told CNN on Tuesday.

Update 10/28/2016: After being criticized as ‘arrogant’ for not responding to his prize, Dylan says he will attend the award ceremony 'if possible.' But, in a recent call with Sara Danius, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, Dylan said: “I appreciate the honor so much,” adding, "The news about the Nobel prize left me speechless."
