Amazon is suing more than 1,000 people suspected of providing fake 5-star reviews on its website having advertised their willingness to write glowing reviews on fiverr.com for as little as $5. This follows Amazon's earlier action, in April, when it sued several websites that sold fake customer reviews.
This latest action comes in the wake of the Sunday Times (UK) revealing that they were able to push an e-book to the top of one of Amazon's bestseller charts using fake reviews.
Everything Bonsai was written in a weekend and strewn with errors, but went to the top of the gardening and horticulture section on Amazon UK's Kindle store after fake reviewers were paid just £56.
