The shortlist for the Man Booker Prize has just been announced:
We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulawayo
The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton
The Harvest by Jim Crace
The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
The Testament of Mary by Colm Tóibín
The shortlisted authors each win GBP2,500 (about US$4,000) and a specially bound edition of their book. The winner, who will be announced on Oct 15, will receive an additional GBP50,000 (US$78,500).
