Why do we say "If you've got it, flaunt it.

Well-Known Expressions

If you've got it, flaunt it

Meaning:

If you've got more than someone else, you have a right to show it off

Background:

Many sources say that this expression originates in the 1968 movie, The Producers, written and directed by Mel Brooks:
"That's it, baby. If you've got it, flaunt it."

But, according to George Lois's 2012 book, Damn Good Advice (For People with Talent!): How To Unleash Your Creative Potential by America's Master Communicator, George Lois, he coined the expression a year earlier in 1967 for a series of ads for Braniff Airlines

Braniff Airlines did indeed use the slogan in their ads starring celebrities such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol, but it appears that these ads first aired in 1968, so it's not clear whether Mel Brooks can claim credit or George Lois.
