Do you think the adults in Rosa's life are doing the right thing for her? How does the fact that Anna and Sophie both lost their parents inform the way they treat her, in your opinion?

I think the adults are doing the very best they can for Rosa and the other children, given the confines of the custody agreement. Clearly, all would have preferred the original arrangement where the children were with Anna and Sophie but the Mezzanote farm seems an idyllic place to grow up. I do think Rosa has formed a special attachment with Anna and Sophie, not only because of the similarity in losing their parents but because Anna and Sophie were among the very first people they met after the trauma of the ship voyage.

I think the adults are trying as best they can to bring the girls up to discover their own identities - very different from the indoctrination the Church wanted to impose upon them.

I think the adults in Rosa's life are doing the right for her. I think Anna and Sophie treat give Rosa the type of parenting they would have liked to have. I like that they tailor it to her personality.

Yes, at this time, I think the adults are doing the right and best thing for Rosa and her sister. Especially now that her young brother has died, being back on the farm will be a good place for both of the girls - a natural environment with much to engage them physically and mentally. I don’t think the door is closed permanently, however, to a return to Sophie’s, and Sophie is so good about letter writing and keeping in contact. The whole family seems to have gathered round the young girls even more now that they have lost their brother. They are in good hands.

I have a little different view on the adults than has already been mentioned here. I find it interesting that Sophie seems to be a lot closer to Rosa than Anna is. I realize that she was staying at Sophie’s house, but it seems like Anna would have been there as much as she possibly could. What about Anna and Jack once being the parents of the three children. Was that only so Rosa could have a relationship with Sophie?
