Clearly he saw that the servants were being sexually abused by Nicholas Lambert.

I agree with Deb, but also think Sophie was right that Sam would not have been pleased with how Mrs. Griffin treated her servants either.

Good point Deb, I had not contemplated this. I also agree with reneet. I could see her insulting him indirectly too.

I agree with others that Sam had some insight into the abuse that was taking place in the house. Also, being observant, he recognized mistreatment of family servants and suspected he would be treated in the same manner.

I realized that there was abuse going on, but I had not thought about Nicholas Lambert even though it is the obvious answer!
