How do you think Lucy's resemblance to her mother helped or hurt her?

Lucy was separated from her mother at a very early age. In what ways was Lucy like her, even though she had no real memory of her? Do you think her resemblance to her mother helped or hurt her?

On the whole, I think it hurt her. Her physical resemblance to her mother reminded the townspeople constantly of her mother and her disappearance. Her mother didn't live in the town long enough to be accepted because she was exotic, different and didn't come from the area. Lucy's beauty attracted the wrong attention.

I also think her physical resemblance to her mother hurt her becuase the townspeople will always see her as a person who doesnt belong. She does resemble her mother in her inner strength and that's a good thing.
