Leon is a complex character and is oftentimes conflicted when making decisions. Despite his reluctance to speak to the media and his doubts about Rhona, why do you think Leon agrees to travel to Melbourne to meet with her? What do you think he expects from their first meeting? What is so different about Rhona and the possibilities she offers him that makes Leon want to work with her?

I think that Leon was a social misfit who knew he was going to die. Despite having trouble making decisions, I think this is one time he just decided to "go for it". He didn't have anything else to lose. Rhona gave him a chance for hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. I also think Rhona was straight forward and a "mothering" type figure for Leon.

Leon had been living life totally alone and Rhona offered him something he had not had, hope. He was very unsure about meeting the other Wonders, but figured he could walk away if it was not what he could handle.

I loved & was so fascinated by this book.
I think Leon wanted his life to count for something and was lonely where he was. The chance to meet the other 'wonders' - people who didn't quite fit, just like him, captivated him. He needed to make connections again. Also, reading further in the book, perhaps he needed an intense kind of relationship like the ones he had with the people who created his new heart?
