According to O'Reilly's research, some of the procedures in the world she has created are not far off from what some people already undergo. What do you think will happen with medical technology in the future?

Paddy O'Reilly has created a world that seems very much like the world we live in now, but with characters whose bodies have been radically altered. According to much of her research, some of these procedures are not so far from what some people already undergo. What do you think will happen with medical technology in the future?

Just this past week we were given an artificial pancreas. I find the characters in The Wonders a bit unbelievable. However, years ago the roads and vehicles in Buck Rogers comic books were really out there. Who knows what the future will bring? Anything is possible.

The UK just OKed the creation of a three person embryo. I have no doubt many experiments take place in private research labs that we no nothing of at present. Whether for good or for bad, humans will push the limits. Procedures are being done routinely today that would have been considered unbelievable 50 yrs. ago. Egos dictate excess. Competition fuels that excess. Without controls, medical technology will do great things and horrific things. Guess we have to decide as a society how many controls will be imposed.

I think medicine is advancing very quickly. I think people are kept alive much longer than ever before and sometimes it may not be a good thing. There are many artificial parts available today that were not available even 10 years ago. Who knows what the future may hold, but at some point, there has to be an ending, as we are after all, mortal. I just hope there continue to be cures found for diseases...

I do applaud any medical advancements which create comfort, return ability or lengthen one's life (not always the best choice.) I do think medical technology will continue to improve. There is a point when all the technology in the world won't help. What is most disturbing are the procedures people can buy to create one or many artificial features - which serve no other purpose than attracting attention. I read last week some man is having several artificial procedures done so he can look like a Ken doll. He actually wants to look plastic. I have also seen pictures of people with implanted horns. It is unfortunate some doctors will do anything (even if it ultimately will create more harm than good) to a patient's body.

I think medical technology will continue on the path it's already on. It will always push the limits of what's acceptable to society. It would not be surprised at all if someday someone adds appendages like Christos. There's always some doctor out there that will "help" if enough money or fame is involved.

I think we, as humans, will always be looking for new ways to make life easier, live longer and more comfortably. It is part of our human nature. We are the "intelligent" life form of the world. We have and will do things that are not too smart (GMO crops and body enhancements and use of badly polluting products that are life threatening) but hopefully our mass intelligence will also get a handle on that too. The medical field is going to continue to make advances by leaps and bounds and we all will have to adjust to what that means to us as it occurs and hopefully as "intelligent life" deal with it appropriately.

All of these answers are very true. In last night's news (2-13-15) a piece was about an appendage with a hand that not only gives the wearer the ability to pick up small items, but also the ends of the fingers have feeling. This is accomplished by wires to nerves in the arm that the person, by thoughts can achieve such a thing. But the sad part is that it is fairly far into the future before this can be used by masses. Technology is on its way!

There will probably be some wonderful advances as well as all sorts of strange new surgeries. The flip side is the pushing of drugs for all sorts of newly-named ailments. People who don't live in the United States are often astonished when they visit her, watch televisions, and see nothing but advertisement after advertisement for drugs - - many of which have more serious side effects than the original nagging pain.
