What impact did Zelda's relationship with her friends have on her? Do you believe her friends were good influences?

Yes, I believe they were. Friends bring a variety of influences and views to the table and Zelda's friends certainly did. Sara is the one who makes the women's rights movement of more personal impact to their lives. While Zelda might have been confused about her role as a mother and daughter and wife, she knows she can count on her friends as anchors.

When I first read this question, I couldn't think of any friends she had. (I did finish the book a few weeks ago, so that's partly to blame).
I think she mostly suffered from not having enough friends - or at least not enough friends close by. She spent way too much time alone with nothing to do - or nothing she was 'allowed' to do and feel good about. If she'd had friends nearby, they could have supported her while she felt isolated and unappreciated - and maybe helped her stand up to Scott when he threatened her.
