In what ways do you find that America at war today is different than it was during past wars? Why do you feel this has changed over the decades?

With the #metoo movement, we are finding similar gender discrepancies once again. Although women can usually step up to the job, men may find it difficult to work beside a woman instead of above her. Even spouses still think that a visual compliment will make 'the little lady' cheer up when having a bad day. Many men just cannot accept women in combat or in any level of authority.

I think technology has made a huge impact on how Americans react to being at war today. First, I think the television reporting during Vietnam War led to the debunking of the myth that war was a glorious endeavor. Second, I think that wars require fewer troops on the ground so many fewer families are directly involved by having a son, husband or boyfriend doing close-range fighting - so it feels less personal to many.

Today we find women in all branches of the armed forces serving all over the world. Some women are even leading the men and are serving in positions of power and rank. In the WW I and WW II time of "Code Girls" women were felt to be the fairer sex and were felt to be better able to handle the tedius work that was required for code breaking.
