What do you think the future holds for Peter and his sisters?

For Peter at least, I think the future holds more opportunity to be liberated. Being in a city was a step in the right direction, as cities are generally less conservative than small towns. Without the live presence of such a dominant father, Peter likely feels more freedom, especially since the "secret" is now known amongst family. I think the future will be better than the past.

The future, one would hope, holds a reunion of sorts. At the end of the book, the author offers a dream image of the sisters together. Each of the sisters, including Peter, sees her sisters as her greatest support. Whatever the future holds, it seems that these women will be their best selves, with the best likelihood of happiness, upon reconciliation and reunion.

I think there is hope. Peter and his sisters were always happiest together as children by themselves. Going to Europe, finally becoming all sisters and accepted that way as Peter has always dreamed, in a place no one knows him as Peter, what else can there be but hope? They've shed the burden that their parents put on them and all of them can be the people they want to be.

Hope they will be in a better place than their parents were. I, too, think his decision to move to a more urban area will help him get adjusted to his own sexuality and his place in the larger community of life.

There is hope for all the siblings. I don't think it is necessary for Peter or anyone to be in a place where no one knows you. I think Peter first needs to know himself and to accept himself. In first grade he knew he wanted to be a mother, now he has got to find help in accepting that for himself and in believing it is OK.

I think the future is very hopeful for the sisters, including Audrey. I hope they will come to an understanding of each other and themselves that will lead to a good life for each of them.

I hope it holds happiness and acceptance.

I was taken by Peter's relationships with his sisters and their ability to accept Peter's differentness from early in his life. In fact, they seemed to nurture his feminine energy. I can only believe the future holds a closer, truer bond. After all I believe in the adage, "The Truth shall set you free." Both Peter and his sisters are now free to live more authentic lives. I have a transgender friend whose only familial connection of support is his sister. She grew up in an Irish family with a Marine father whose expectations and behaviors were very similar to Peter's father. I find it interesting that the bonding relationship with sister(s) have made it possible for both Peter and my friend to live a much more authentic life.

I agree with all of the above statement. The last couple of pages of the book finally started to seem hopeful for all of the sisters (Audrey included). They were at their best when they were together. May that find that happiness and support for one another again.

I think the siblings are accepting each other and their differences. If you have a good support system you can do almost anything.

At the end of the book, I felt some hope for Peter and his sisters. I feel they all definitely needed each other - especially since they had split up to live their own lives, and realized they needed each other to have any measure of success in their lives.

Hope, love, peace & FUN Peters sisters were there for him at a very early age here they are again WONDERFUL for everyone.

I was relieved when Peter finally moved away from the destructive behavior and his/her confusion. Being in a city that is less prejudice will provide Peter the opportunity to explore the true nature of her being. The sisters have always been supportive and the last few pages of the book gave a glimmer of hope for a happy life.

I believe all will find their place by truly being who they are. No doubt Peter is now Audrey loving every minute of it, finally finding peace and happiness.

I hope they're happier, but realistically, people don't change that much just because their parents die. The siblings are spread out all over the world, and it's hard to reconnect even when you want to. Maybe they can find peace and acceptance in their lives. I hope so.

It seems they are close to forty by the end of the book. They have had a lot of practice at unhappiness. The last paragraph of the book does end on a positive note with everyone together in Germany, and I would like to believe that they will figure out how to find some degree of happiness. I am agreeing with mariannes.

I am happy that the four sisters are together at last. My concern which I mentioned earlier is that three of them don't speak German, How is that going to work for them? How are they going to find jobs? Other friends?
