Some of the girls who are raised as bacha posh do not want to go back to living as women. How do you think you would react if you were in their position?

It is so hard to say how I would react. I cannot even imagine living under such restrictions. Once the girl has lived as a bacha posh, I don't see how she could easily give up the freedoms she once had as a boy.
To be able to walk outside, to play, to speak freely, get an education--how do you give it all up? And how do you not fight to get those rights for all other women? I don't think I could ever go back to the subjugation of being a woman.

Since I have not grown up in the culture and war environment that these girls have I can not say how I would feel in their situation. But from the careful accounting of the situation in the book I am sure I would behave with respect for my family and a willingness to help. I would hope I would understand completely that my parents were trying to insure a better life for me as a bacha posh and that it would give me more confidence in my abilities as a woman once becoming an adult.
