Which character undergoes the most change? Whose journey was your favorite?

The final scene of Maddie sitting at her vanity creates an echo of the book's opening scene, her reflection having vastly changed. In fact, every character experienced a tremendous amount of growth. Of them all, who do you believe transformed the most? Whose journey was your favorite?

I think the most transformation came from Lanes mother. She had many years to form the feelings she had and would not have formed a bridge without her relationship with Maddie.

I agree with djn about Lane's mother, and I also see great change in TJ. I am not so sure that he built any bridges as much as he crossed one or two that were built by others.

I have to agree with all of the comments above and add one more person who changed and that was the woman who was going to help fund Maddie's Juillard experience. She screamed at Maddie because of Lane right after the Japanese attacked Hawaii. After the war she apologized and even invited her to dinner along with Lane's child.
