How has Meridian's way of being in the natural world affected you as a reader? Are you more aware of the animals that surround you each day, of the landscape in which you live your life?

Meridian is a careful, quiet observer of the natural world—of the changing of leaves, of hawks in snow, of birds, and of landscape. How has her way of being in the natural world affected you as a reader? Are you more aware of the animals that surround you each day, of the landscape in which you live your life? What have you seen today that you might not have seen before reading this novel?

Since I am an avid gardener and total patio occupant weather permitting I am already pretty aware of what goes on in nature around my neighborhood. I feed the birds, be sure they have water and plant tons of plants specifically for bird food as well as nectar for butterflies. Watching the mating games of the birds and the way they care for their babies is pretty common at my house in the woods. Also have to take preventive measures to insure dear, rabbits, squirrels and armadillos do not eat my vegetables before I do. My relaxing time on the patio usually includes a set of binoculars.

Not sure if I am more aware, I walk daily and hear the birds, see the squirrels, flowers etc. along the way. I read outside in nice weather and wait for the bids to come to the feeder and watch their activity

We have a pond and some woods behind our home and love to watch the animals that live around us. I only watch them for a few minutes at a time. The observations Meridian was able to make over long periods of time has peaked my interest in doing the same thing behind our house.

While I was reading the book I was inspired to be more aware of the environment and my surroundings but it's amazing how quickly life gets busy and erases those little commitments I make to myself. Maybe if I wrote them down and was more intentional about life practices they would become more entrenched.

I am a birder and got excited about the cover picture with her and the crow. Her natural times were such a wonderful part of the story. While I enjoy sitting and watching and listening to birds, I do not believe taking notes would enhance my joy. I wish I was gifted to sketch as Meridian was.

I now stop and watch the crows. I have always been a bird lover, but did not pay much attention to the crows. The book peaked my interest in crows and I will now take the time to learn more about them.

Absolutely! I have a better appreciation for all of God's creatures and for the beauty and serenity of nature.

Since I've read this book while in rehab for a broken leg I relished Meridian's ornithological observations and appreciation for nature. Luckily my room window open onto the facility's lovely atrium and I've spent my mornings leisurely observing the springtime birds and butterflies that populate the garden before it's beset by people in various means and methods of ambulation.

I appreciated meridian's awareness but am not "more aware" because of the book since I am already very much involved in appreciating and working physically and monetarily to save the natural world in my own country and around the world
