How do you feel about the ending?

How do you feel about the ending? Would you have wanted something different for any of the characters?

I think that having Charlotte and Bay end up together is probably what most of us wanted but the actual ending scenes at both the race and at the boat all seemed just a little too contrived and did not flow as naturally as the rest of the book.

I am very happy about the ending. This book ended just the way I hoped it would.

I didn't want Charlotte and Bay to end up together. But I realize that Charlotte did not have a lot of choices.

I glad to hear there are mixed feeling about the ending. My initial response was - you've got to be kidding! But I guess I may be thinking like a 21st century woman. Then I thought -- but it is probably in that it would be the way it was. I just wanted more for her! Do you think she will be happy?

I liked the ending. We all wanted Charlotte to be happy at the end and there was no time to introduce another suitable mate late in the novel. There were some redeeming qualities in Bay and I think he changed for the better through his relationship with Charlotte.

RE: How do you feel about the ending?

The romantic in me loved the ending! I think that Charlotte was smart enough to know she would never be happy with a conventional Victorian marriage and Bay was unconventional enough to let her follow her passion for photography. I think heading to America was a perfect choice for them because American society wasn't quite so regimented and they would be able to make themselves into whatever they wanted. I would bet that they would make their permanent home there.

But I do agree that, as written, it felt a little forced. It kind of reminded me of Pretty Woman. I still liked it though.

I really enjoyed the book and I equally enjoyed the ending. I was pulling for Charlotte to obtain the happiness and outcome she so deserved.

Perfect! I was glad Charlotte and Bay were to be a couple, on her terms. She expanded her friendships and grew more confident. The ending of the horse race seemed a bit contrived but allowed Bay to achieve financial independence and gave a nice gift to the deserving, delightful Casper. I unashamedly like happy endings.

Oh, I loved the ending, it was hopelessly romantic and exactly what I think we all wanted. I don't truly trust that they lived happily ever after, though, as I'm not sure Bay had really reformed his womanizing ways.

I think the ending was contrived. At least it wasn't predictable. I am glad I read this book, but I found her other historical fiction title, " The American Heiress," a quicker read. This one slogged along more than her other book.

I didn't want them to end up together. I didn't like Bay and thought Charlotte deserved better

RE: How do you feel about the ending?

I thought the ending was too contrived. I was expecting Bay to win the National but the appearance on the white horse coming through the the crowd was over the top.
I had higher hopes for Charlotte although she did convince the man to follow her to another country which at that time would have been unheard of. If the author had left the white horse out I believe it would have been more indicative of the mood set throughout the novel

The ending was okay...however, I would like to go on and read more about Sissi and find out more about her life.

RE: How do you feel about the ending?

I suppose I did hope that Charlotte would end up with Bay. She wanted him, and he seemed to really want her back. As for long term happiness? I doubt it. But, who knows? Some of the most promising relationships seem to go bad, and some of the "least likely to succeed" appear to make it.
I just don't think Bay, the womanizer, would be able to stay faithful. In the beginning, this is what he says he wants. Long term?..... ????
