Did you find Danielle's character inconsistent in the story?

I felt as though the exchange between Danielle at Jon right before she marries the second time was just a way to extend the novel and not true to her character. She is courageous enough to move forward on her own and start her own business. However, she lacks the wherewith-all to wait to marry a man that she truly loves. If she was so desperate to help her family why didn't she ask for help from Abigail or Jon? A small amount of money might have made a large difference.

Everything that I was going to say has been said above by kara.

Yes!! Sometimes I felt she almost had a split personality. Kara put it very well. It seemed on one page she loved Jon with all her heart and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him and by the time you turned the page she was marrying Cameron. I agree that it seemed just a way to extend the novel and add more drama.

Yes. She is a very strong, determined woman on one hand and on the other she can not cope without a man to take care of her, I think a lot of her need for a male protector was part of the time and what women were raised believing.

I do also agree with Kara. She is a very strong woman to go though all she has. She wants so badly to find her son, I am sure she would take any help she could, including accepting money.

I agree with the previous commenters. Danielle was angry with Max because he wouldn't ask for financial help from friends and family and when she finds herself in a situation where she needed financial help she doesn't go to her friends for assistance. Would the story have been the same if she and Jon hadn't married other people? Doubtful as this added to the drama and tension of the story, but it just seemed out of place for someone that had survived so much on her own. Yes, I know that the primary reason she married Cameron was to provide for her mother and daughters, but again why not seek financial assistance in the form of a loan from Abigail or Jon?

I didn't really find it inconsistent. After all, she had grieved for a year and Abigail told her Jon was getting married. So of course she believed his sister. No reason not to. She wanted to make it on her own. But she was also worried by the guy that was following her around. And she saw that the police would do nothing for her. Yet Cameron was able to make one call and get protection for her. She needed that protection for herself and her family.

Considering the time when Danielle lived, I didn't find it strange that she married Cameron. She was limited as a woman in what she could do. It seemed like a decision she thought about and decided it was the best thing to do in her position. She's not the first woman who didn't know what alcoholism is really like.
