As with so many people "Christina's World" is by far Wyeth's most famous, but after reading A Piece of the World, I now focus on the portrait of Christina done in 1967 that she hated and let him know her feelings as well. It was harsh, but knowing her story so clearly reflected her life. Chirstina's World was looking beyond but Anna Christina was her life worn on her face.

I always imagine a back story when I look at a painting--isn't that what we do when we decide the meaning of a painting? Who knows what the artist meant or felt, but we " interpret " any that we observe--or we read the " experts " interpretation and take it as gospel.

Yes but it is not a famous painting. I have a painting of a cottage in a woods. It is foggy and the lawn is slightly overgrown. It makes you wonder who lives there? What country are they in? What time period? How do they support themselves? Is it a family cottage? Is there a main house we don't see in the picture?

Anything by Agostino Brunias. I'd read a novel about the paintings Women of Dominica, Linen Market Dominica and Creole Women and Servants.

I like the impressionists and just about any one of those paintings could be an inspiring, well-written novel with the right author. I would read a story imagined from “Woman with a Parasol,” by Claude Monet.

I'm a big fan of The Fairy-Feller's Masterstroke by Richard Dadd and would love to see a novel based on it or on Richard Dadd. He painted it while in an asylum after he murdered his own father!

No, I don't have any favorites, but I find it fascinating that an author could write a book around a painting.

I would love to read a story about Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party.

Quite a few paintings, actually, but one in particular, by Vermont artist Susan Abbott, called "The Road Home, Winter", showing a main road through a small town (Plainfield, I believe) in Vermont. I like to imagine the people who live in the houses, and where home might be for the artist, who is on her way there through the town.

I've always been a fan of Norman Rockwell. Each of his works tells a story but I think it would be really interesting if someone took one that seemed self-explanatory and made up a story that took you somewhere completely different than you would have expected.

Everyone has always been mystified by the story of Mona Lisa, so I think that would make a good novel. Maybe American Gothic? Or how about Dogs Playing Poker? Lol.
