Her character was likeable to me. It showed how well she dealt with her disability.

I loved Christina. I am tired of the recent novels with unreliable narrators. Christina was strong and continued to learn even with her limitations. She accepted her fate in life with grace. She is one of my favorite characters.

I liked her very much but became discouraged when she became nasty and hurtful in her later years.

Although there were parts of the story where she was not a likeable person, she was the perfect narrator to tell the story. Her personal challenges and disappointments were the story. I can’t imagine it would have been such a good book told by any one else.

I found her to be a likable narrator. There are so many "ways" that life can be crippling, and I can't imagine any other narrator who could have spoken with such authenticity.

Christina is a likeable narrator because she’s honest and emotionally real. I like that she told the story from her perspective with her slant on how some things happened.

I found her likeable, and I think she was a good friend to those she cared about in her life.

I'm torn. At times I found her likeable & at other times I found her unlikeable. I found her very unlikeable at times but I still felt empathy for her because of her condition & because she felt so alone.

I loved the young Christina who was in love with Walter. She had such high hopes and her dreams took her beyond her disabilities. I was sad and disappointed for the Christina who felt her losses so deeply and who drove Al's loved one away. In the end, I liked her as she'd persevered through so much. I found myself really caring for her.

Christina is a strong character with a stubborn streak that both serves her and makes her life more difficult at times. She refuses to let her disability define her until it overwhelmingly does. Her emotions are pure and raw... she loves hopefully, suffers angrily, holds grudges and accepts her lot in life with stoic resignation. For these reasons she is difficult to like but easy to admire on most levels. Like most real people, she is flawed and very human.

eI did not find Christina a likable character or narrator. She was quite self-centered and selfish, probably due to the restrictions her illness placed on her. After Walton abandoned her, she became bitter refusing offers of help, yet demanding help from her long suffering brother whose life she ruined. It was as if she could not be happy, neither could anyone else around her. Yet, it was her personality that made the story what it was.

I found her to be a likeable narrator because I got to see her world through her eyes

I did not find her to be a "likable" person. You can see why she has very few friends. She is so full of pride and so conscious of others seeing her deformity that she appears cold and unfriendly. I could see taking a friend in a wheelchair to events and parties but I would not walk next to someone who was crawling on the ground just to prove she was independent. The fact that she kept Al with her shows she is also selfish.

RE: Did you find Christina a likeable or unlikeable narrator? Why?

I found Christina to be both likeable and unlikeable as a person dealing with incredible physical and social challenges. She was a fine narrator as she spoke the truth about her feelings as she experienced love, heartbreak, painful physical limitations, and denial of her career choice by her parents (I know they needed her to help run the farm, but I ached for her not being able to fully utilize her talents). If she had been allowed to teach, she could at least have had personal satisfaction and maybe better personal relationships with others. She continued to be very angry about her situation and her lost love throughout her life and kept bringing it up throughout the book. I was disturbed when she made sure her brother wouldn't have a life of his own by making him feel so guilty about taking care of her -- even when he said he would always be there for her and include her in his future life. However, it was amazing how she managed to do all the household chores and help with the farming. I had to admire her determination.

I was not very fond of Christina. I found her stiff and unyielding, selfish and narrow-minded. There were, in fact, few people in this book that I actually liked.

RE: Did you find Christina a likeable or unlikeable narrator? Why?

I didn’t find Christina to be particularly likeable. She was very stubborn, and not in a good way. Why wouldn’t she at least go to a doctor to see what was wrong with her? Her stubbornness and selfishness affected her whole family, particularly her brother. I agree with the previous comment that she was stiff, unyielding and narrow minded. Perhaps some of this could be the fault of her parents who didn’t seem to be particularly loving or supportive, and certainly never encouraged her to go out in the world and seek her fortune.

She was good narrator who depicted not only her lot in life, but also those who lived during this period and the struggles they faced.
